Ladera Resort – a romantic hotel in St Lucia with spectacular views
Honeymooners, celebrities and adults looking for somewhere special to stay in St Lucia should take a look at Ladera Resort, a luxury Caribbean hideaway
Words by Travel Writer & Photographer Linda Jackson, Editor of Active Caribbean
Perched on a forested ridge overlooking the Caribbean Sea and the spectacular Piton Mountains in St Lucia, is where you’ll discover Ladera Resort – a romantic hideaway favoured by celebrities and honeymooners. Think VISTA big time… it’s the unifying element throughout the adults-only resort, also known for its distinctive eco-lodge architecture and open-air living.
Each guest suite at this exclusive resort has been built with only three walls. This is intentional. Instead of a fourth wall closing the accommodation in, the room is open-ended offering unobstructed and stunning views of St Lucia’s spectacular Caribbean coastline, the glistening azure sea, the lush tropical rainforest, and the island’s two iconic volcanic peaks – the Pitons. The views are awesome. Rather than offering a ‘room with a view’, each suite boasts a ‘view with a room’. Guests who really want to soak up the view in the suites and villas can simply step through the open wall and sink into their private plunge pool landscaped with tropical planting. Read more…

Ladera Resort appears 100% natural – from the friendliness of its staff, the skilfully hand-made furniture and polished wood interiors, to the natural stonework, hardwood and Caribbean timbers used to create this unique resort. As for personalized service – this is guaranteed at Ladera as the resort employs more than 140 staff to tend its guests in just 32 luxury suites and villas. The cleverly designed suites are completely private, safe and sheltered, from which guests can enjoy amazing sunset views and stargazing opportunities from the 1,100ft ridge on which Ladera sits.
This exclusive resort has been established for many years but, in 2013, a private and secluded enclave – Paradise Ridge – was created for its top tier guests. The new villa (the ultimate romantic hideaway) and five luxury suites on Paradise Ridge are lavish, spacious, feature locally-woven textiles, hand-crafted furniture, signature carvings, elegant Colonial four-poster king-size beds, and bespoke butler service. In Paradise Ridge accommodations your butler will see to your every need… pack and unpack, organize dinner reservations and preferential seating, book island tours, activities and spa treatments as well as arrange transport and re-confirm flights.
The Spa at Ladera Resort, St Lucia
With the island’s volcanic history and lush rainforest inspiring special treatments at the Spa at Ladera, expect some hot and steamy pampering – including chilling out in the hot tubs set in serene tropical gardens adjacent to the Spa. Or, for the ultimate indulgence, relish an outdoor massage on Paradise Ridge overlooking the majestic Pitons…. absolute BLISS.
St Lucia weddings and honeymoons at Ladera Resort
Expect a relaxed, barefoot lifestyle in ultimate open-air living at Ladera, a popular hotspot for weddings and honeymoons. There’s a Dream Wedding Package (with lots of legal necessities and goodies included) available for lovers who want to tie the knot at this romantic Caribbean venue, and a Romance Package popular with honeymooners which includes a couples’ massage, a bottle of champagne, a trip to the mineral baths, and a romantic dinner at the resort’s Dasheene restaurant.
Restaurants and dining options at Ladera Resort
Open-air dining plus breathtaking views of the Piton peaks, the St Lucia rainforest and the Caribbean Sea are also on the creative menu at the award-winning Dasheene Restaurant and Bar Dasheene. Savour an array of classic West Indian meals created by Chef Nigel Mitchel, with emphasis on fresh seafood caught in local waters and spices and produce grown by local farmers. For a very special private dining experience – a proposal, anniversary, honeymoon or birthday treat perhaps – consider booking the Wine Cellar at Dasheene Restaurant… exclusively memorable.
Adventures and activities on-site and nearby in St Lucia
The main swimming pool and deck area at Ladera are located below the restaurant and bar, overlooking the sea and Piton Mountains (a UNESCO World Heritage Site). The infinity pool at the resort, the first of its kind in the Caribbean, was used during the filming of ‘Superman II’. There are cardio and strength training equipment in the fitness centre, a library, board games, high speed WiFi and, on request, portable DVD players (for in-room use). The nearest beach is at Sugar Beach to and from which there is a shuttle service (10 minutes’ drive). Ladera will arrange nearby adventure activities which include island tours, rainforest ziplining, horseback riding, guided rainforest hiking/walking trails, birdwatching, jeep rentals, scuba diving, snorkel trips, sailing and fishing charters.
With a policy of no televisions, phones or computers provided in the signature open-air suites, there are no distractions, no reminders of work or the hustle and bustle of city life. So… expect to have plenty of time to focus on your partner, to chill out in the hot tubs, and to soak up the awe-inspiring vistas – day or night – from your very own plunge pool. This is Ladera at its best. It is no surprise, therefore, to discover – hidden within a long string of accolades to its name – that Ladera has been voted “Best Hotel in the World” by Condé Nast Traveler.
