Active Caribbean vacations
Enjoy golf, sailing and cruising, birdwatching, fishing, exotic Caribbean gardens and natural parks. Or you can take a cruise in the Caribbean on a family-friendly ship with adventure activities on board.
Caribbean leisure activities – golf
From December to April the region is a golfer’s dream, perfect for Caribbean leisure activities, especially golf. Expect gorgeous weather, some amazing golf courses, caddies on tap and, more often than not, beautiful sea views from the golf course.
There are many islands in the Caribbean where you can play golf. Choose carefully though, some Caribbean golf courses might not be maintained as impeccably as you would like. Some Caribbean islands may only have one or two courses to choose from, many none at all. If you’re a beginner, then golf is golf – and most courses will keep you absorbed. But if you’re a serious golfer, head for the islands in the Caribbean that offer the best maintained golf courses. To find out more about Caribbean golf courses and golf holidays in the Caribbean, go to the Golf section.
Caribbean leisure activities include botanic gardens and National Parks
Are you a keen gardener or photographer, or a lover of tropical flora? Well… has the Caribbean got some colour in store for YOU. Everything grows three times as quickly in the Caribbean than they do in more temperate regions – we reckon if you plant a walking stick you won’t have to wait long to see it bloom!
Best months for flowers in the Caribbean are between December and April but, to be honest, there’s never a month without a fine display being put on by Mother Nature, and bougainvillea in many vibrant colours is in bloom year-round.
Nearly every Caribbean island has a botanic garden of sorts, private exotic gardens, or national parks, and most hotel gardens have tropical gardens which are beautifully maintained and a pleasure to stroll around, many of the plants and trees often named. To find out about flora go to the Gardens, Parks, Flora section.
Birdwatching is one of the most popular Caribbean leisure activities
The Caribbean is a birdwatcher’s Mecca. From bird colonies in Tobago and Little Cayman to the a nature centre in Trinidad and frigate bird sanctuary in Barbuda, ornithologists will find the Caribbean one of the most rewarding regions in which to spend a dedicated birdwatching vacation. Go to the Birdwatching section to read more.
Game fishing & fly fishing – exciting Caribbean leisure activities for angling enthusiasts
River networks, lagoons, river mouths, flats, and creeks make Costa Rica and Belize exciting and challenging destinations for anglers while Panama boasts one of Central America’s richest coasts. There is an abundance of game fish. Fly fishing, big game sport fishing, and bottom fishing trips can be tackled with deep sea fishing charters. The Riviera Maya in the Yucatán Peninsula, Mexico, is renowned for its exceptional fishing – in shore as well as off shore. Bonefishing is fantastic on the flats in the pristine waters of the Exumas, the Out Islands of the Bahamas, while Marlin, Tuna, Dorado, Wahoo, Snapper, and Barracuda are frequently caught around all the Caribbean islands. You’ll find more detailed information in the Fishing section.

These days you’ll find plenty of Caribbean leisure activities and active things to do and keep you occupied if you take Caribbean cruises with activities on board. Then… an adventure bonus… at ports of call you can experience other Caribbean leisure activities and adventures by booking cruise ship island tour excursions.
