History of the Dominica World Creole Music Festival (WCMF)

Started in 1997 the WCMF was started as a means of creating an international music event to attract international visitors and to expose the many sub-genres of Creole music to a worldwide audience – with Dominica being the centre of this new and exciting musical phenomenon. Many of the most well-known creole music artists and groups over the past decades have performed on the WCMF stage, including Dominica’s Exile One, the creators of cadence-lypso; Kassav, the world-famous zouk band out of the French West Indies; as well as Haitian groups such as Tabou Combo, T-Vice, Carimi and Magnum Band, along with current Haitian President Michel Martelly (Sweet Micky).

Dominica is a Mecca for outdoor enthusiasts with hiking, diving, canyoning, ziplining and whale watches adventures available for the adventurer. This is a great opportunity for music lovers to combine attending this music festival, seen as one of the only truly indigenous music events in Dominica and the Eastern Caribbean, with an adventure vacation.
