Nevis wildlife

Regretfully Nevis wildlife, as on its sister island St Kitts, is not plentiful. St Kitts & Nevis, officially named “The Federation of Saint Christopher and Nevis”, are very close to each other geographically and have virtually the same wildlife and marine life.

What you will find are donkeys, goats, mongooses, several species of bat, and vervet monkeys – introduced to the island by settlers. Early in the morning or late in the afternoon, away from the developed areas of the island, is a good time to see the green vervet monkeys.

St Kitts & Nevis birds

A total of 203 different bird species have been recorded in St Kitts & Nevis. Amongst them are the Antillean crested hummingbird, pelican, waders, cinnamon teal, yellow warbler, Caribbean coots, green heron, Wilsons plover,  little blue heron,  great egret, green throated Carib hummingbird, American kestrel,  Caribbean Elania, black tern,  black whiskered vireo,  and shiney cowbird… To find out more about birds in the Caribbean region generally, go to the Caribbean Birdwatching & Birds page in the Caribbean Leisure Activities section.
