Cayman Islands in a nutshell
The Cayman Islands (a three-island archipelago) are located 167 miles to the northwest of Jamaica, 149 miles to the south of Cuba, and 480 miles and a 70-minute flight from Miami. They are a British Overseas Territory in the Greater Antilles (in the western Caribbean Sea).
Grand Cayman is the largest island, offering lively night clubs, restaurants and resorts on the western coastline. Its famous Seven Mile Beach is where tourism is concentrated.
Cayman Brac is popular with nature lovers and adventurers, and Little Cayman is a quiet, romantic, relaxing haven. All three islands are mostly flat, apart from the islands’ highest point on Cayman Brac (The Bluff) which rises 141ft / 43 metres above sea level.
Cayman territory is a major offshore international financial centre, tourism is the major industry, and George Town (Grand Cayman) is the capital. The region can experience tropical cyclones during the Atlantic hurricane season (July-November).
Why visit Cayman Islands
The Cayman Islands is a great family-friendly Caribbean vacation destination – the waters are shallow and the seas calm.
While you’re in Cayman Islands
Go horseback riding along the beach and snorkelling with stingrays – very popular vacation activities.
And, for the kids – take them to swim with dolphins and see turtles at the turtle farm. They can see fish from a submarine, and be introduced to SNUBA diving – a cross between diving and snorkelling.
