Will this Caribbean destination suit the adventurer in you?

This Puerto Rico Adventure Activities Travel Guide is essential reading for anyone planning to visit the country for an active Caribbean vacation. We hope it will help you decide if this destination suits the adventurer in you.

Puerto Rico in a nutshell

Puerto Rico is a predominately mountainous Caribbean island in the Greater Antilles, and is an unincorporated territory of the United States. Other main islands in the Puerto Rico archipelago include Vieques, Mona and Culebra. Puerto Rico itself measures approximately 100 miles by 35 miles. Modern and busy Puerto Rico does have an old town and heritage sites you can explore, and there are fourteen state forests – that includes the Guanica Dry Forest (a UN Biosphere Reserve) and El Yunge rainforest.

The lush and quiet island of Vieques, located seven miles off the east coast of Puerto Rico, boasts gorgeous unspoilt beaches (both white and black sand), a bioluminescent bay, classy accommodation, and a chance to “get away from it all”.

Why visit Puerto Rico

Puerto Rico is a great Caribbean golf destination – there are 23 golf courses to choose from. As well as 300 beaches, the island has a rich history, three out of the seven bioluminescent bays in the world, a lush rainforest, and a huge choice of things to do – whether you’re looking for soft adventure, adrenaline kicks, or fun activities that all the family can enjoy.

While you’re in Puerto Rico

A ‘must do’ in Puerto Rico is a kayaking tour of one of the islands bioluminescent bays – there are three on the island. Kill two birds with one stone (excuse the pun) and combine birdwatching with hiking in one of the forests. Take a walking tour of Old San Juan to see fortresses, colonial architecture, and brightly coloured buildings, and rent a car to explore the island. For an adrenaline kick go ziplining on one of the highest, longest, and scariest zip line in the world.
