St Barts in a nutshell
Located around 22 miles to the south east of St Martin and Anguilla, St Barthelemy (aka St Barts or St Barths) is a volcanic island and was once a Swedish colony, hence the Swedish name of the capital – Gustavia, which is also the picturesque main harbour. There are more than a dozen beautiful white sandy beaches, and valleys and hills spread over the island – the highest peak is Morne du Vitet which rises to around 938ft.
Despite the fact that this French Caribbean island is only ten square miles in size, St Barts packs a punch when style comes into the equation. Consider it the St Tropez of the Caribbean. It is the haunt of the famous, the hideaway of the rich, and the harbour of magnificent yachts. There is also duty free shopping in the elegant shops in St Jean and picturesque Gustavia.
